Packing dolls are a traditional Inuit craft practice. The name derives from the way the animal carries its young in its parka. This piece is hand embroidered and sewn. This is a stuffed doll and is huggable.

Maudie Ohiktook is a sculptor from Ikpik (Thom Bay), NU currently residing in Talurjuaq (Taloyoak), NU. Ohiktook moved to Talurjuaq in the mid-1960s and became among the first in her community to begin carving. Ohiktook’s work draws heavily from shamanism, often depicting spirits and transformation scenes. Her sculptures have been exhibited in group and solo shows around the world and are held in major collections across Canada such as those of the Art Gallery of Ontario in Toronto, ON, the Canadian Museum of History and the National Gallery of Canada in Ottawa, ON. Ohiktook’s work has been featured twice on the cover of the Inuit Art Quarterly.
