Christina van Putten is a Mississauga-based creative and recent graduate of OCADU's Material Arts and Design program (2023). While her degree primarily focused on Jewellery making and metalsmithing, Christina also has experience working with textiles, ceramics, printmaking, woodshop, and in industrial design. A lot of Christina's personal work follows a sustainability initiative and everything Christina creates aims to be an expansion of her technical and design capabilities. She enjoys incorporating non-metal elements into her work when possible to create surprising material combinations, and many of her forms are based upon those found in nature. Christina's current body of work features unique, one-of-a-kind pieces that are intended to showcase technical abilities, as well as creative/conceptual design capabilities.
The Silver x Glaze Drop gemstone collection aims to promote sustainability as the eliminated center pieces from the larger pieces are repurposed to create earrings, smaller brooches, and pendants. Each piece is hand fabricated from start to finish and each stone is carefully selected and ground by hand to ensure a smooth finish. Glaze Drops are born when the molten glaze melts off its clay body to form blobs of unique amalgamations of every colour used in the piece. My glaze drop collection has been generously provided by ceramic artist, Michelle Mendlowitz, whose unique taste for glaze combinations ensures that no two stones will be alike! The organic nature of the stone creation process is reflected in the organic silver outlines and stamped designs.
