Ashevak was born in Cape Dorset, Nunavut, the eldest child of Kumajuk and David Adla. He started carving when he was eleven years old with his grandfather, Audla Pee’s, tools.

Ashevak is a full time carver. He used to work with an axe and hacksaw, but now he carves using power tools. He loves making birds with their wings wide open. He says he learned by watching Nuna Parr and his son, Jutani, working on bears. Ashevak says he remembers that when he was a child his other grandfather, Kalai Adla, told him that when he grew up he would be a carver.
