Terrie MacDonald graduated from the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design in 1997. Using earthenware clay, vessels are hand built from molds and templates she has created, similar to sewing pattern pieces. Terrie concentrates on table and accent ware, making objects with a sense of celebration for everyday life.

Terrie’s work is common domestic objects (bowls, platters, mugs etc) which she embellishes with layers of slip, sgraffito, and colourful glazes. A driving force in her work with clay is her belief that handmade objects can remind the user that beauty, moments of reflection, and meaning can be found in the everyday.

“Working with clay is a physical pleasure. Its plasticity and transformative qualities are sensual and alluring. Creating objects that people bring to their mouth, use to nourish themselves, is a great honour. For me pottery holds an important role as a vehicle to celebrate domestic activities that are intimate yet also rather mundane.”
